World at War: Map Pack 3

“Map Pack 3″ is the third and final map pack for Call of Duty: World at War. Available once again as a DLC pack, it offers 4 new maps to the game. 3 of the maps are online multiplayer and the other a new Zombies map.

Playstation 3: August 6, 2009
PC: September 18, 2009

Like the previous map pack, it was released one month later for PC users but with the benifit of being completely free. This was becasue there was still no effective and easy method to make users pay for the Downloadable content unlike on the Xbox and PS3.

Below are the list of the new maps available in “Map Pack 3″:

Battery: A weird and unique heavily armoured and equipped island surrounded by sea mines and battery cannons dotted throughout the map. Based on Fort Drum (El Fraile Island) in the Philippines. Includes many locations to hide and many close quarter encounters! A map definatley like no other which makes it great fun.

Breach: The overcast and overcrowded streets of Berlin. The map is based around the famous Brandenburg Gate. A fast paced and compact battlefield!

Revolution: Set around a cold Russian factory and streets. A good map for snipers! Many posters around the map hint as the factory being one for vodka ;)

Der Riese: (Meaning “The Giant” in German) This map is set around a Nazi secret weapons facility. This is the first map to introduce teleporters into the game and the ability for a player to upgrade any standard weapon. This map also includes the feared Hellhounds! Der Riese later went on to be included in the  Black Ops: Rezurrection map pack.

Prices:
Xbox 360: 800 Microsoft points

Below are the list of the new maps available in “Map Pack 2″:

Banzai: A very jungle orientated map set deep in Japanese controlled territory. Featuring waterfalls, bridges and hidden caves. A good map for sniping and supprise assaults.

Corrosion: A deteriorated and desolate Russian train yard. Use broken pipelines to run through and flank your enemy. Just dont forget your enemies could be above you!

Sub Pens: Set in a Japanese submarine hangar thats been bombed. Make sure you control the chokepoints on the map to win! Not very good for snipers, better for close quarters combat.

Shi No Numa: A new Zombie map that is set in a swamp. The big change about this Zombie map is the addition of a new enemy… Hellhounds! These fire like wolves appear at certain intervals at the game and it adds a new type of challange to the game. Especially since they can teleport right infront of you!

World at War: Map Pack 1

“Map Pack 1″ is the first set of maps that was made available for Call of Duty: World at War. It was announced on March 18, 2009 and expanded the game by adding four new maps. Three of the maps were for online multiplayer and one was for the Zombies game mode. Until now there has only currently been one Zombie map which was fairly basic and the new Zombie map really opens the door for the game mode.

Release dates:
Xbox-360: March 19, 2009
PS3: March 19, 2009
PC: April 9, 2009

Below are a list of the maps:

Nightfire: Fighting through the burning streets of berlin. Lots of destroyed buildings and fire! Firey urban warfare!

Knee Deep: Takes place on the lisland of Peleliu in a small village which has been run down by Japanese occupation. Lots of places to fight and well balanced gameplay. Great for all types of players and combat types.

Station: Takes place in a desolate and destroyed underground train station. The map includes many secret passageways, deserted train cars and specific sniper spots.

Verrückt: A brand new zombie map which takes place in a zombie asylum on the outskirts of Berlin. Offers brand new weapons, perks and traps! Much bigger than the previous “Nacht der Untoten” map too. A really good zombie map! The Verruckt map was also made available in the Rezurrection map pack DLC for Black Ops.

Prices:
Xbox-360: 800 Microsoft Points
PS3: $10
PC: Free

The map pack was released initally for Xbox-360 and Playstation 3 with promises that the PC version would be released later. At the time there was no effective way to offer the map pack to PC users unless they sold the maps by physical disk which would be a lot of effort. Instead Treyarch made the map pack free for PC users but released it about a month later than the PS3 and Xbox-360 versions.
