Modern Warfare 3 active monthly users over 40 million

Alongside the release of Activision’s financial results, lots more details were revealed about the Call of Duty franchise and the ELITE service.

As you can see from the graph below, Modern Warfare 3 has only been out 3 months yet already it has overtaken the monthly active users of all previous Call of Duty games.

Year on year the franchise is getting bigger and bigger. What’s interesting to see is the first Modern Warfare game having such a consistant number of players to date even though the game was released over 4 yeras ago.

There are a large number of players out there than consider the inital Modern Warfare to still be the best Call of Duty out there and haven’t jumped on any of the newer releases.

I personally cannot deny that some of the online multiplayer maps in the original Modern Warfare were fantastic, extremely atmospheric and tactical. We would love to see some of these fantastic maps return in a Modern Warfare 3 map pack.

Also in the report some details about how many have joined the ELITE service were revealed.

As of January 2012 there are currently 7 Million players who have signed up for the service, 1.5 million of which are premium paid members. This huge number of sign ups could explain why the Call of Duty website is taking so long to load at the moment!

Of the 40 million active players that means 17.5 % of players have signed up to the service (free or premium) which is still a pretty small figure considering how many players there are out there!

Obviously the ELITE service is not available for PC and the Wii so all the players from these systems will not be able to sign up for the service.

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users though should definatley sign up! All you have to do is create an account on their website here: and link your PSN or Xbox account and you’ll be rewarded with double XP for an hour without spending any money at all.

If you want to sign up for the premium service then you’ll get access to lots more features and of course the Content Drops.

If you haven’t signed up for the service yet though you definatley should, even if it’s just for the double xp.
