Details revealed about Call of Duty: ELITE 2.0

In an investor press release from Activision a little while ago, it was shown that a Call of Duty: ELITE 2.0 was going to be coming along in the future.

What exactly is ELITE 2.0 though? Will it mean that existing ELITE Premium members will have to buy a new subscription? The short answer is no you wont as Dan Armich from Activision reveales information on the new service.

The original quote about ELITE 2.0 from the earnings call is as follows: “Finally, we’re already hard at work on Elite 2.0, with several innovative features being developed to work hand-in-hand with our next Call of Duty release, and look forward to sharing more details with you on it in the coming months.”

“This shareholder tease led some people to assume that they would have to buy two subscriptions to Elite — the one you have now and a new one for the forthcoming game. Nope. This is more about upgrading and revising the service that currently exists. They always promised Elite would evolve, but now they clearly have some specific upgrades in mind timed to the next game.”

“It helps to remember that Elite is a service, not a boxed product. Consider Xbox Live. You need an annual subscription to get what it offers, but when Microsoft added more video programming and updated the dashboard interface and made it more Kinect-friendly, as they did late last year, you didn’t need a second XBL subscription to see those changes. Same thing here. “Elite 2.0″ is just a short, software way of saying “significant improvements are in the works.” Hope that makes it clear for anybody who was still fuzzy.”

Call of Duty ELITE currently offers a huge list of features for its free and premium members so it will be very interesting to see what version 2.0 will have to offer!
