PS3 Users having trouble downloading new DLC as Sony ‘loses’ subscription status

With the release of the 4 pieces of brand new ELITE content today on the PlayStation 3 some users are having some frustrating problems download the new content.

“PS3 Elite Users that are having DLC issues. I’m looking for more info. If you are having the issue can you go to Account Management -> Transaction Management -> Services List and see if you see your Elite subscription there.”

If your subscription is not showing up you may want to contact Sony since your ELITE subscription should be there. If it isn’t, don’t assume it is gone forever since there will surely be a record of your subscription elsewhere.

Some users have found a fix for certain download problems where by they had to re-download all of the ELITE content season again (All 19 drops!) It’ll undoubtabley take a while to re-download all the content again but it may fix all problems.

Other users are reporting they cannot play online at all with the new maps which may mean there is a problem on Sony’s end of things which means we’ll have to sit tight and wait for a fix.

Update from Infinity Ward: “PS3 Update: So it seems there are multiple symptoms going on with the PS3 DLC. We are trying to get a hold of Sony now. It seems the PSN Store is having issues. Will update as soon as I learn anything from Sony.”

Update 2: More help for EU PlayStation 3 users:

I’m getting a “New Maps Not Available” or “Original Maps Error” message when trying to download DLC Drops 13-15 for Modern Warfare 3 on PlayStation 3. How do I fix this?

Follow these steps to download the MW3 DLC (downloadable content) Drops 13-15 to your PlayStation 3:

  1. Launch the PlayStation Store from the PlayStation 3 XMB (XrossMediaBar)
  2. Search for “July Bundle”
  3. Multiple ELITE July Drops will appear for multiple regions
  4. Select item “July Bundle ELITE Drop” (access key) with no region specified, and confirm the purchase
  5. Once the non-transaction purchase is confirmed you will be able to download the correct ELITE July DLC (Drop 13-15) for your specific region.

Note: If you get an error message “This content is not available to you” please refer to Step 4

Infinity Ward Confirms: No Classic maps to return in MW3

Disappointed or relieved? Perhaps a bit of both?

Infinity Ward has confirmed that classic maps from previous Call of Duty titles will not be included in Modern Warfare 3′s DLC 9 month season of content.

A forum post over on Activision’s official forum demanding extra information about the DLC season went as follows: “Personally I am getting more and more fed up with the lack of information coming out about content. Last month on xbox Sanctuary and Foundation just appeared – no notice, videos or details released prior. I assume (rightly or wrongly) May may well see the release of Content Collection 2 as well (on Xbox) as that should consist of 6 pieces of content (all Maps) and if like March – a week after.” Via Forum member BAMOZZY.

He was replied to by a developer from Infinity Ward with the following response: “We’ll attempt to give you a better heads up on release timing moving forward. One of the issues we face is we sometimes don’t receive release date notification from the first parties and internal QA until late in the day.

I can confirm that paid DLC will consist of all new maps, missions etc.

The confusion and anger among users comes from a lack of information regarding Map Pack release times and little to no information provided about what will be release when the time comes round, considering ELITE Premium members are paying $50 a year for the service, users expect a better service. A good example of the unexpected nature of DLC release comes as ELITE Content Drops 7 & 8 were released almost out of the blue for Xbox 360 Premium members.

We find it unfortunate that no classic maps will be included in Modern Warfare 3, former Creative Strategist Robert Bowling thought classic maps should be returned in Modern Warfare 3 for free, as the developer said though “PAID” DLC will not include classic maps, that doesn’t mean we could get some classics released for free right!? (Highly unlikely but one can hope).

Modern Warfare 3 Map Pack 1: Nostalgic teased

The @MW3Updates twitter profile has just shown us a picture and revelaed the date of the first Call of Duty Map Pack!

The tweet was as follows: “Rumored Nostalgic Map Pack for #MW3. Which MW1 or MW2 map would you like to see in #MW3?”

In an official post here, it was revealed that the first DLC for Modern Warfare 3 will be released on the 24th January. One map called “Park” has been official announced with 3 others teased.

We knew map packs were coming, so it seems logical that they’d release it pretty early after release in order to give us as many map packs as possible! The first Black Ops map pack was released on the 1st of Feburary so for Modern Warfare 3 it’s a month later. (We have assumed the image is using the American date format)

Check out the picture they posted below, it shows off 4 previous Modern Warfare maps which are as follows:

  • Terminal from Modern Warfare 2 (Set in an Airpot terminal, luggage and planes everywhere, lots of glass too!)
  • Favela from Modern Warfare 2 (The slums of Rio de Janeiro, lots of ground and rooftop battles!)
  • Shipment from Modern Warfare (The smallest Call of Duty Map you’ll ever see! It’s basically as square map with a few shipping containers in the middle! The most intense map ever!)
  • Crossfire from Modern Warfare (A map I personally loved, great for sniping along the large main road and great close quarters combat in this desert town!)

We are uncertain whether these will all be released as part of a map pack as of yet. The twitter post asked us which our favourite map was from MW1 or MW2 and which one we’d like to see return. This could mean they are letting the community pick the 5th map for the pack or they are letting us choose one from the list they have compiled.

Although being called Nostalgic which is defined by wikipedia as “The term nostalgia describes a yearning for the past, often in idealized form.” could mean the map pack will be made up of all previous maps, so I think the community is going to get to pick the 5th map! If they are bringing back all previous map maps then that would explain why the pack is being released so quickly after launch, lets just hope the price is right. Bring back highrise I say!

A PlayStation update a few weeks ago revealed that there would be a total of 20 pieces of DLC for Modern Warfare 3 starting in early 2012 over a 9 month period. The DLC’s will include extra Multiplayer and Special Ops maps! With 20 pieces on the way we’ll have to assume that the prices of the DLC’s will be lower than what they usually are, being prices usually around $18 would be far, far to expensive, especially since there will be 20 of them! Otherwise that would equate to $620 on map packs… Premium Call of Duty: Elite memebers get all the map packs and DLC’s automatically amongst other content for which they pay $60 a year so that would equate to about $3 per DLC which is fantastic!

The 20 pieces of DLC could possibly refer to individual maps. So if there are 4 maps per DLC that would mean there are scheduled to be 5 DLC’s in total. If there are 5 maps per DLC, then 4 packs in total which could seem more reasonable!

We recently had a discussion on which maps we’d like to see return in Modern Warfare 3 here, what maps do you want to see return?

Call Of Duty Map Packs

Which classic maps do you want brought back to life in a Modern Warfare 3 map pack?

It has become popular for Call of Duty map packs to bring back old classics to their future games because there were always maps on the previous games that everyone loved but they can’t really include the maps with the release of the game since it would seem cheap.

Infinity Ward is has been developing the Call of Duty franchise for the longest period of time than any other CoD developers, to date they have released 5 Call of Duty titles since Call of Duty debuted in October 2003. So this is the company that has the most experience and a huge number of maps available to their disposal to bring back to life in Modern Warfare 3.

Infinity Ward has been known for bringing back its classic maps from previous games in their map packs for the original Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2. In the original modern warfare, the variety map pack included everyone’s favourite from the hugely popular Call of Duty: 2 known as Carentan. It was just a fantastic map that was always the most popular. They put a twist on the map though to make it a bit more quirky and different because you wouldn’t be fighting in a small town in France with a WW2 settings in a Modern Warfare game so they kept the basic outline and geometry of the map but completely re-skinned it, dubbing it “China Town“.

In the two images below you can see the same area in the two maps and how different they are. The same was done for the Wasteland map in Modern Warfare 2 which resembled the Brecourt map in the original Call of Duty.

Incidentally, the original Carentan map was based off one of the scenes in the 10 part mini-series Band of Brothers when they take the small town of Carentan. A lot of the original Call of Duty’s seemed to resemble a lot of the mini-series, with even characters names being identical to that of Band of Brothers. The two bottom images of the picture above show the similarities betwen the two.

In the second Modern Warfare 2 map pack (Resurgence), two maps from Modern Warfare were brought back to life: Vacant and Strike. Two fantastic maps that were definitely worthy of being given a second chance in a future Call of Duty, it’s unlikely these will be given a third appearance so unfortunately we probably won’t see these. So instead let’s take a pick of one map from each Infinity Ward Call of Duty game that we’d like to see brought back to life in Modern Warfare 3. Obviously the map packs that will be released will have original content in them but it is always nice to bring back a fan favourite and classic map.

Let’s start with the original Call of Duty which was first released in 2003, their maps will look a little dated as of today’s standards but with a little TLC they could be fantastic. So for the original I have chosen the map called “Pavlov”, named after one of the characters in the campaign, Pavlov is set in a snow environment around a large apartment complex surrounded by other buildings and other forms of entrance, it’s a fantastic map because you can have close quarters combat inside the buildings and epic sniper battle between them.

For the next Call of Duty which was released in 2005, “Call of Duty 2” was a massive step for the game in terms of quality and graphics. The map I’ve chosen from this one is called “Burgundy”, it is a small French village but it was one that I will always remember from the game because it is a fairly small map but has a great sniper vs. sniper area and the rest is just fantastic for combat.

Infinity Wards next game was the original Modern Warfare(2007), until this release Call of Duty had always been WW2 themed so it was a huge leap forward for the franchise and allowed for some great new content and maps. Deciding which map to pick here was definitely one of the hardest since there are so many great maps such as Pipeline, Crossfire, Ambush, Countdown and Broadcast from the DLC but in the end, the map I’d most like to see in Modern Warfare 3 would be Countdown because it is a map that is extremely different from any others, the main  thing hiding you from the enemies is the smoke from the missiles so a thermal scope would work wonders and it’s just generally a well put together map.

Last but not least we have the famous, Modern Warfare 2. With two DLC’s available there is an absolutely massive choice of maps available for this game. The two maps that really stuck out for me from this game were Terminal and Highrise, two brilliant maps that appeal to all kinds of player. Each being set in a truly unique environment. I think I’d have to go for Highrise though, the awesome secrets to get on top of the buildings and the secret passages to get the enemy are great.

We hope to definitely see at least a few of these maps rejuvenated and brought back to life in some of the Modern Warfare 3 map packs. We really hope though that they’ll take a look back into their much earlier WW2 games because it would be great to see another Carentan/Brecourt map brought up to scratch.

Those who have played the original Call of Duty or Call of Duty: 2 will know that there are definitely some memorable maps there that would be a real treat to see again. Of course we’d expect some brand new maps included in a DLC/map pack release because that’s the idea of them and new maps are always welcome as they add a breath of fresh air to the game. Since Modern Warfare 3 has made a habit already of shaking things up and adding new things to their game, we may even see our first map pack that includes extra Spec Ops missions as well as multiplayer maps.

What do you think:
What maps would you like to see brought back to live in Modern Warfare 3 from the previous Call of Duty series? Maybe you have played some community created maps that would be worthy of integration into the actual game. If your playing Modern Warfare 3 and haven’t played the previous two you should check them out since the story continues throughout them all.

For those who havent played some of the earlier Call of Duty’s you should definatley check them out, you can get them really cheap now, check out some of the links below:
